How To Create a 52-Week Marketing Calendar Online

Google calendar for marketinghThe 52-Week Online Marketing Calendar is a management tool to give time-strapped business owners a focused, quick, and easy method to manage marketing. This posts identifies 8 quick and easy steps to create one.

While there are many online calendars to select from, my preference is Google Calendar. And while I will be talking about Google Calendar functions, these functions may be found on other online calendars. So, focus on the following steps, not on the particular calendar.

  1. Create a new calendar. This can be a standalone calendar with a unique account, or you can add a marketing calendar to others you may have.
  2. Permit sharing with other executives in our group.
  3. Create calendar events that correspond to your 52-Week Marketing Schedule.
  4. In the event details section, include special instructions and links to reports and other relevant content.
  5. Set-up alarms for due dates.
  6. Use the repeat event function if appropriate.
  7. Use the task function to itemize specific actions for each event.
  8. Click “save” and move on to your other tasks.

EXAMPLE

  1. If you use the 4-week marketing outline I’ve proposed in an earlier post, you'll see that week #2 focuses on inbound marketing. One of its major steps is to evaluate keyword performance. Let’s elaborate on this step.
  2. On your online calendar, create an event that begins on the second week of the month and name it “Inbound Marketing.” Have this same event repeat the second week of every month.
  3. In the description field of the event, identify the actions to be taken under inbound marketing. One of these actions is to evaluate keyword performance, so write that in. If you use Google Analytics’ Traffic Sources or Hubspot’s Keyword Grader, include the links to these pages for easy access.
  4. Still on the event, include appropriate alarms if you like to be reminded of upcoming calendar activities.
  5. Provide detailed tasks such as “Update keyword list by Thursday” and monitor when they are checked as completed.
Obviously, this management tool can be greatly enhanced. Please share your ideas by commenting, below.Mission: To help small and mid-size businesses capture the power of big-picture marketing.
